Error 14? – Currently, there is no way to get your data back.

We get a lot of inquiries from people with iPhones displaying Error Code 14. If you are one of these people then you’re probably wanting to find a way of recovering the files and data from your phone, without performing a Factory Reset and wiping its contents.

iPhone Error 14 – How does this happen?
Before the fatal error 14 code is issued, the iPhone will notify you that it is getting very short on memory. The “Storage Almost Full” message that you see is really prompting you to free up some space on the iPhone by deleting some of the data on it. This could be Apps that are no longer used or maybe a few photos or videos: anything that frees up some space on the phone.

If you follow this instruction the “Storage Almost Full” message will disappear and you’ll be able to carry on as normal. The problems come when you don’t do anything about freeing up some space on the iPhone. That space, which was already critically small just gets even smaller until eventually, the phone will fall over as it’s run out of space to function.

Once this happens the iPhone will most probably enter a continuous boot loop. If you connect the iPhone to iTunes and try to restore the phone you’ll see the Error 14 code.

What can be done to recover the data from an iPhone with Error Code 14?
If you Google the error code you’ll see a lot of incorrect advice from Apple and others about changing the USB cable or updating software etc. We’ve never known this to be successful, but you can follow Apple’s advice and give that a go if you want. But in our experience, once the phone is displaying error 14 it’s not possible to recover the data from it. There is simply no space on the phone to allow it to function normally, and there is no workaround. The only choice you have is to factory reset the phone, which will lose the data on it. Hopefully, you’ll have enabled iCloud to store a backup of your data, but if you haven’t your data is lost.

And Finally…

You’ll come across web sites that say they are able to fix this problem, but you’ll find they all want money upfront. That’s the scam – they are just using your desperation to get money out of you. Don’t fall for it, they can’t help you.

One of the new features of the iPhone XS and XS Max is dual-SIM support, which will let people wield two phone numbers on the same device. Here’s how it works in countries where eSIM is available.

Setup

That’s the first catch, of course: only 10 countries support Apple’s eSIMs, namely Austria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, India, Spain, the U.K., and the U.S. Even then carriers must offer compatibility too, and initially the only supporting U.S. carriers for the XS and XS Max will be AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Sprint is planning to back the technology, but doesn’t yet have a date.

iPhone owners will also need an update to iOS 12 coming “later this year,” and a carrier’s official app or special QR code.

Many people will already have a nano-SIM card from their main carrier, in which case adding a second number involves adding a plan to the eSIM. If using a carrier app, the process is as simple as using that app to buy a plan — in the case of a QR code, you have to open the Settings app, tap Cellular, then “Add Cellular Plan.” You’ll be presented with an option to scan your code.

Notably you’ll be able to use the eSIM in place of a nano-SIM, whether for a single account or several, but you won’t be able to have more than one eSIM account active at a time. For most people then, the best option will be to have a nano-SIM primary.

Once multiple plans are running, you’ll be prompted to label them. There are preset options like “Primary,” “Secondary,” “Business,” and “Travel,” or you can simply create your own. To change a label later, you’ll have to go into the Settings app‘s Cellular menu, tap the number you want to change, then Cellular Plan Label.

You’ll also be asked to set a default number, which is critical since it will be the only one supporting the full range of cellular services. Secondary numbers can normally only field voice and SMS.

The exception is an option to relegate a secondary line to data only, which may be useful for traveling — this will let people call or message you at your main number but avoid exorbitant roaming fees with a local SIM card. Be warned that in addition to voice and SMS, iMessage and FaceTime will still go to your primary, which could rack up data fees.

Making calls

Once you’ve got things up and running, you can switch numbers before dialing in the Phone app by tapping the current one directly from the keypad, or else hitting the “i” button first when you’re browsing Favorites. Picking an SMS number is similar, but you tap the number after starting a new conversation and selecting a contact.

Changing the line for iMessage and FaceTime is more complicated, as you have to go into SettingsMessages, and then iMessage & FaceTime Line. The selected choice is permanent until you reverse it.

There’s one last thing to note, which is iOS 12’s status bar info. You’ll normally only see signal strength for one line at a time, but you can see how a secondary is doing by opening up Control Center.

The first wave of preorders for the iPhone XS and XS Max is underway. Quick-trigger buyers should see their orders delivered Sept. 21.

Apple’s official MFi Certified logo is regularly seen on many third-party accessory packages. The MFi certified logo covers the full range of iDevices accessories. It is an abbreviation for “Made for iPod, iPhone, and iPad”. MFi unblocks business opportunity for third-party accessory manufactures and forces them to ensure their products meet Apple’s standards. And the MFi certified accessories are recommended to be used with your iDevice. Today we are going to discuss about MFi certified lightning cables.

MFi Lightning Cables

The original 30-pin dock connector was superseded by the lightning connector in 2012. And the lightning connector is currently Apple’s proprietary connector for charging and data transmitting. A tiny authentication chip inside each lightning connector makes Apple MFI Certified easy to tell. Non-certified or knock-off lightning cables will harm your devices as a long run. These cables can often get extremely hot and at the same time as that might be the source of iDevices overheating.

Non-MFi Lightning Cables

Non-MFi Certified cables can be purchased from various resellers with a much less than a certified cable price. Predictably, cheaper is not always better. Many unqualified manufactures lead the market to confusion. According to Apple, non-MFi Certified cables are not subjected to industry-standard consumer safety testing and are poorly constructed with inferior or missing components, flawed design, and inadequate electrical insulation. These non-MFi certified cables have the potential to overheat, catch fire, and deliver a deadly electric shock to consumers while in normal use.

So many customers who have used non-MFi Cables had their logic board (the Motherboard) shorted by bad voltage delivery. Once a logic board has been shorted, the cost to repair becomes almost the same as a new device.

Verification

The iDevices will notify you if you are using a non-MFi cable with the message “This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work with you device.” When purchasing chargers or charge cables, make sure you are getting an Apple approved product with MFi logo.

iPhone 6 Baseband IC

Baseband  is commonly known as BB, Baseband can be defined as a communication module. It contains a communication system. It is usually used to control iPhone’s communication procedures, telephone communications, WiFi wireless communications, as well as Bluetooth communications.

The Baseband manages all the functions which require an antenna. The baseband processor has its own RAM and firmware in NOR flash, separate from the ARM core resources. The baseband is a resource to the OS. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are managed by the main CPU, although the baseband stores their MAC addresses in its NVRAM.

All iPhones have a baseband, and iPhone baseband is essentially the cellular modem firmware that is on your iPhone. Specifically, baseband includes the low level software that is running on the iPhones cellular modem hardware, the combination of which allows the iPhone to connect to a cellular network to send and receive data, phone calls, and transmissions.

Warm Prompt:

iPhone’s signal is directly related to its baseband IC. Under normal circumstances, if you upgrade the firmware of your iDevice, it’s baseband will follow the upgrade.

Additionally, baseband is also what keeps the device locked to the intended carrier, in the USA, this is commonly AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and some smaller other carriers. Buying an unlocked iPhone would not have that baseband lock, for example.

How to check iPhone’s baseband?

A1. Launch Settings app of your iPhone -> click General.

A2. Continue to click About -> Modern Firmware.

The iPhone’s baseband processor is the S-Gold 2.

The iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3GS and the iPad make use of the X-Gold 608 chip for this purpose.

The iPhone 4 (iPhone3,1) and iPad 2 (iPad2,2) use the XMM 6180.

The iPhone 4 (iPhone3,3) uses the MDM6600 and the iPhone 4S uses the MDM6610.

iPad 3 uses MDM9600.

iPad 4, iPad Air , iPad mini, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s use MDM9615.

iPad Air 2, iPad Pro (12.9 inch), iPad mini 4, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone SE use MDM9625.

iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Pro (9.7 inch) use MDM9635.

In January, Apple took down a web tool that allowed anyone to check status of the theft-deterrent Activation Lock feature. While the link to the iCloud Activation Lock webpage is now dead and the associated support document detailing Activation Lock no longer references the tool, We have discovered that potential buyers in the market for a secondhand iOS device can still check Activation Lock status by IMEI through Apple’s Support website.

IMPORTANT: The workaround doesn’t always work properly so your mileage may vary.

As explained before, Apple most likely took down the iCloud Activation Lock web tool for security purposes, to stop hacks relying on stolen serial numbers.

iCloud Activation Lock allowed anyone to check if a used iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch was lifted. Some folks have been known to leverage the tool when reactivating a bricked device: hackers would typically enter a device’s IMEI on the now erstwhile iCloud Activation Lock webpage to decipher its serial number, then change the hardcoded serial number stored on the device to bypass Activation Lock.

How to check Activation Lock status via Apple Support pages

1) Visit Apple’s Support website in your browser.

2) Select iPhone from the list of devices.

3) Click any search category related to hardware, like Battery or Repairs & Physical Damage, then select a specific problem like “Buttons not working”.

4) On the next page, click Send in for Repair.

5) On the next screen, enter your device’s serial number, IMEI or MEID to check its Activation Lock status.

If Find My iPhone and Activation Lock are enabled on the device, you should see a message saying “Sorry but we can’t create a repair while Find my iPhone is active”.

Tip: If you don’t see this option listed, go back and select a different device problem.

We fully expect to see Apple remove this obvious loophole soon.
